Zurich cash boost for CALM
Swindon based children’s cancer charity CALM has received a £2,000 cash boost thanks to the hard work of staff at the town’s Zurich offices.
On Sunday 19th July 2009 volunteers from the company organised a Summer BBQ for more than 40 children and parents from the CALM charity at the Supermarine Sports and Social Club near Swindon.
With heavy rain falling, the Zurich staff quickly swung into action turning the planned BBQ into an indoors Hawian themed summer party.
The volunteers left nothing to chance with the children being entertained through circus skills workshops, a disco, 10 pin bowling, party games and face painting.
Staff had raised the money to put on the event through a series of sponsored events as part of the Zurich Cares initiative, with the company match funding pound-for-pound.
The volunteers raised so much that even after the party had been fully paid for, organiser Hannah Ponting was able to hand over a cheque to CALM for £2,000.
The money will be used to help provide financial support and assistance to families affected by childhood cancer in the Swindon and Marlborough area.
CALM Chairman Richard Crowley said: “I can’t thank the team at Zurich enough. When I saw the horrible weather on Sunday morning I wondered how we’d salvage the BBQ. But I needn’t have worried because the voluntees from Zurich had left nothing to chance. To have raised the money needed to make the party a huge success, and have some left over to make a financial donation to our charity was simply amazing.”
